Thomas T. McClendon is a partner at Jones & Walden LLC, representing debtors, creditors, and other stakeholders in Chapter 11 reorganizations, Subchapter V cases, and corporate workouts. His practice also includes commercial litigation, business sales and acquisitions, real estate transactions, and lease negotiations for clients across multiple industries.
Thomas earned his J.D. magna cum laude from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 2013, where he was Lead Articles Editor of the Washington and Lee Law Review and received the American Bankruptcy Institute Medal of Excellence. He graduated summa cum laude from Auburn University in 2010 with a B.A. in History, was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, and served as an Honors College Ambassador.
In bankruptcy matters, Thomas has secured confirmed Chapter 11 plans for companies in industries including construction, trucking, retail, real estate, and aviation, as well as for individuals with significant business-related debt. He has represented creditors of all sizes—from major secured lenders to small trade creditors—in cases ranging from multimillion-dollar reorganizations to smaller-scale proceedings.
Thomas’s notable results include representing the largest creditor in In re BPI Sports, LLC, where the plan was confirmed in just 32 days, and serving as liquidating trustee in In re Teri G. Galardi, achieving a $10 million recovery for unsecured creditors. Tom also litigates complex bankruptcy issues, such as nondischargeability claims, fraudulent transfers, and veil piercing, and frequently negotiates favorable out-of-court workouts.
Before joining Jones & Walden, Thomas T. McClendon clerked for Judge Robert G. Mayer of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and practiced at both a boutique business firm in Macon and an AmLaw 100 firm in Atlanta. His combination of litigation skill, transactional experience, and deep bankruptcy knowledge allows him to deliver strategic, results-oriented counsel in even the most challenging financial restructurings.
