Irve J. Goldman has more than three decades of experience guiding clients through complex matters in bankruptcy law, creditors’ rights, and financial restructuring. He has taken part in many Chapter 11 proceedings, assisting businesses of all sizes, from regional companies to national retailers, as well as representing trustees, secured creditors, landlords, franchisees, and other parties in restructuring cases.
Irve earned his B.B.A. from Temple University in 1980 and went on to receive his J.D. from Western New England University School of Law in 1984, where he contributed to the Western New England Law Review. By 1993, he became the first lawyer in Connecticut to be certified as a business bankruptcy specialist by the American Board of Certification, establishing his reputation as a leader in the field.
Irve has managed diverse reorganization proceedings, including unique cases such as a marina in St. Thomas, a vintage car company, and a regional hardware chain. He has also served as a Chapter 11 Trustee and represented both Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 trustees. His work reached national attention when he represented the State of Connecticut and several other states in the Chapter 11 case of Purdue Pharma, L.P. et al., a case widely followed across the country.
Irve J. Goldman continues to build on his long career by representing clients in high-stakes bankruptcy and commercial litigation matters while contributing knowledge to the broader legal community. She frequently shares his insights as a speaker and author on bankruptcy topics. He has contributed to respected legal journals, writing on subjects including standing issues in bankruptcy, executory contracts, prejudgment injunctions, and lien stripping. He has also presented at multiple Connecticut Bankruptcy Conferences, addressing third-party releases, credit bidding, and asset sales in Chapter 11.
Irve’s practice extends to commercial litigation, where he has handled disputes in state and federal courts involving civil RICO, fiduciary duty claims, debtor-creditor conflicts, and other complex business disputes. He has received recognition for his work, including selection to Connecticut Super Lawyers since 2006 and acknowledgment in Best Lawyers in America for bankruptcy, insolvency, litigation, and commercial law. He has also been named Stamford “Lawyer of the Year” in bankruptcy-related areas and holds the highest peer review rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
