About
Terrence L. McCoy has built a distinguished legal career spanning more than five decades, with a strong concentration in real estate law. Practicing since 1970, he has helped clients across Kentucky navigate complex property issues. His work reflects a commitment to clear, practical legal solutions and a deep respect for local and international legal systems.
Terrence began his academic journey at Dartmouth College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Classics. He later attended Duke University School of Law, receiving his Juris Doctor. His formal education provided a strong foundation in both classical thinking and modern legal frameworks, which continues to shape his approach to legal matters today.
Terrence gained early legal experience while serving with the Peace Corps in the Independent State of Western Samoa. There, he worked with the Attorney General’s office and the Law Draftsman, gaining insight into both customary Samoan law and New Zealand’s statutory system based on Common Law. This international perspective has remained a vital part of his legal outlook.
Terrence began practicing law alongside his father in 1970 and has since served in various roles across Kentucky legal firms. His career has been deeply rooted in real estate, which comprises 90% of his practice. He has also assisted clients in probate matters and other legal needs, always with a steady focus on delivering thoughtful and effective representation.
Terrence L. McCoy has been admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and multiple federal and state courts in Kentucky. He was honored with senior counsel status in 2016. His professional affiliations include long-standing memberships in the Kentucky and Louisville Bar Associations. Fluent in both English and French, he brings clarity and cultural understanding to his practice.
