Steven W. Bugg is a seasoned attorney at McAfee & Taft with extensive experience in bankruptcy, creditors’ rights, commercial transactions, and litigation. Since joining the firm in 1982, he has represented clients in various industries, including agriculture, real estate, oil and gas, trucking, and healthcare. He has served clients across the country in bankruptcy proceedings, including cases in Delaware, Texas, Florida, and more. Bugg handles complex matters involving secured creditors, commercial foreclosures, workouts, and reorganizations.
Bugg earned a B.B.A. in Economics from the University of Oklahoma in 1978. He later earned both his J.D. and M.B.A. from the University of Oklahoma in 1982. He was named to the Order of the Coif and served on the Board of Editors of the Oklahoma Law Review.
Throughout his career, Bugg has represented secured and unsecured creditors, landlords, committees, and debtors in all chapters of bankruptcy. His work includes litigating lien priority issues, fraudulent transfer claims, and plan confirmations. He has led cases involving commercial real estate, retail businesses, healthcare institutions, and manufacturing companies. He also deeply understands the Uniform Commercial Code and regularly handles complex commercial litigation and foreclosure actions.
Bugg is a proven bankruptcy and litigation attorney who has guided clients through high‑stakes matters nationwide. His experience includes recovering assets in complex trucking bankruptcies, representing oil and gas producers in national energy litigation, and managing Section 363 asset sales in Chapter 11 cases. He also has significant experience in Native American law, including briefing and arguing cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. Bugg is admitted to practice in Oklahoma, multiple federal district and appellate courts, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and the U.S. Supreme Court, and he has litigated in several tribal courts across the region.
