Steven J. Leibel is a highly experienced attorney and partner at Knoll Leibel LLP, focusing his practice on personal injury, business litigation, insurance claims, and construction disputes. With over two decades of legal experience, Steven has represented clients in complex and high-stakes litigation throughout New Mexico and North Dakota.
Steven earned his J.D. from Baylor University School of Law in 2001 after completing dual B.A. degrees in English Literature and Political Science from North Dakota State University in 1997. Following law school, Steve began his legal career at a respected plaintiff’s firm in Albuquerque, later becoming a shareholder at Dines & Gross PC. He also served as an adjunct professor at the University of New Mexico Law School, teaching legal writing.
Steven’s litigation experience is extensive, having tried numerous cases before judges and juries. In 2007, he was part of a trial team that secured a $53.2 million verdict in a personal injury case—at the time, the largest such verdict in New Mexico history. Since relocating to North Dakota in 2012, he has achieved multiple jury verdicts exceeding $2.5 million. In addition to his practice, Steven is active in the legal community. He serves on the North Dakota Pattern Jury Instruction Commission and the Board of Governors for the North Dakota Association for Justice, where he will serve as President for the 2024–2025 term.
