Steve L. Miller

Steve L. Miller is a Wisconsin criminal defense attorney with more than four decades of experience building legal arguments for people facing criminal charges. Since 1985, he has worked to protect clients through pretrial motions, suppression arguments, and appeals. His approach focuses on identifying legal issues that can change a case before it reaches trial. Steve examines evidence, challenges its admissibility, and develops arguments aimed at strengthening the defense or resolving criminal charges without a trial.

Steve received his Juris Doctor at the University of Wisconsin Law School. He began his legal career in 1985 as a student intern with the Wisconsin Attorney General’s Office. By 1987, he was handling civil and criminal litigation, with a strong focus on appeals. Since 1996, his practice has centered primarily on criminal defense. This background gives him decades of experience researching complex legal questions, preparing written arguments, and identifying issues that could affect the outcome of criminal proceedings.

Steve handles pretrial and post-conviction motions, appeals, motions to suppress evidence, challenges to the admission of evidence, jury instruction issues, and sentencing arguments. He holds Wisconsin State Public Defender certifications at Levels 1, 2, and 3, including first-degree homicide matters. His additional certifications cover juvenile law under Chapters 48 and 938, mental health, guardianship and protective placement under Chapters 51 and 55, and termination of parental rights.
