About

Mac Blessen is a criminal defense attorney and lead OWI attorney serving clients across western Wisconsin, including Hudson, Menomonie, Eau Claire, La Crosse, and River Falls. He represents individuals accused of OWI, DUI, and other drunk driving offenses, along with drug crimes, gun crimes, and violent crimes. His work ranges from misdemeanor charges to serious felony cases. He helps clients understand the legal process, evaluate their options, and address concerns involving their driving privileges, employment, and future.

Mac attended Hamilton College and completed his Juris Doctor at the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2023. While studying law, he interned with Federal Defender Services of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin State Public Defender, gaining exposure to defense work before entering practice. He also worked in nonprofit communications in Washington, D.C., where he developed experience explaining complex issues and communicating people’s stories. His educational and professional background contributes to a defense approach centered on clear communication, careful listening, and practical preparation.

Before his current role, Mac worked as a public defender in Baraboo, Wisconsin. He managed a high-volume caseload that included civil commitment proceedings, juvenile delinquency matters, misdemeanors, and felonies. That experience gave him regular exposure to people facing different types of legal challenges and court procedures. In OWI and DUI cases, he focuses on explaining the process from the outset and working with clients toward resolutions that account for the possible effects on their licenses and livelihoods.

Mac Blessen places particular emphasis on individualized representation and making clients active participants in their defense. He works to understand the facts of each case, communicate the available choices, and present the client’s circumstances in a way that judges and juries can follow. His prior public defense work and experience with criminal charges of varying severity inform his current OWI practice. He approaches each case with attention to both the immediate allegations and the consequences a criminal proceeding can create.
