Stephen L. Waters

Stephen L. Waters is an accomplished litigator and trial attorney recognized for his excellence in real estate and white collar criminal defense. With a focus on commercial disputes, securities, construction defects, and eminent domain, he has earned a reputation for aggressive advocacy and dependable legal guidance. His courtroom success spans Denver and most western states.

Stephen began his academic journey at Georgetown University before completing his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Kansas. He then earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri School of Law, establishing the foundation for a distinguished career in litigation and federal criminal law.

Stephen launched his legal path as a Deputy District Attorney in Denver, later advancing to Chief Trial Deputy and Assistant District Attorney in Colorado’s 9th Judicial District. There, he led the Aspen office and prosecuted high-level felony cases. His federal experience deepened as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Colorado.

Stephen continues to handle complex commercial real estate litigation, construction claims, arbitration, and mediation matters. His practice also includes defending clients in white collar investigations and federal prosecutions. His strategic insight and trial skills make him a go-to counsel for challenging disputes and high-stakes litigation.

Admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States and the Colorado State Bar, Stephen maintains active roles in the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association and both the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations. His honors include the 2023 Best Lawyers “Lawyer of the Year” in Litigation – Real Estate and a 2024 AV Preeminent rating, recognizing his leadership in legal excellence.
