Stephen C. Barrera is a partner and trial lawyer at Barrera Defense in Floresville, Texas. Barrera earned his J.D. from St. Mary’s Law School after receiving a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Texas at San Antonio. While in law school, he made the Dean’s List, wrote for The Scholar: St. Mary’s Law Review on Race and Social Justice, and won first place and Best Speaker in the school’s 1L Moot Court Competition. He also interned for U.S. Fifth Circuit Judge Emilio Garza.
Barrera began his legal career in the trial section of Bracewell & Giuliani LLP, where he gained experience in a national law firm environment. He later returned to South Texas and founded his own practice in 2008. His criminal defense work includes serious felony trials and record-clearing matters. Barrera has also served as a part-time judge in Wilson County, giving him experience with criminal proceedings from both advocacy and judicial perspectives.
