Spencer Kontnik

Spencer Kontnik is a nationally recognized civil rights attorney with a strong reputation for trial advocacy and impact litigation. Known for championing disability rights, he has argued cases before the United States Supreme Court and multiple federal and state courts. His courtroom wins often result in six- and seven-figure outcomes for his clients.

Spencer earned his Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Government from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2010. He then received his Juris Doctor from the University of Denver – Sturm College of Law in 2014, where he was a leader on the National Trial Team and received the Directors Award for exceptional achievement in advocacy.

Spencer has helped draft legislation and testified before the Colorado Legislature to advance civil rights protections across age, race, sex, and disability. Appointed by the Governor in 2024 to help revise the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act, he continues to shape public policy. His 2024 injunction win against a State Supreme Court broke new ground in disability law.

Spencer was honored with the Access to Justice Award by the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association for holding a long-term care facility accountable in a disability discrimination case. He has argued appeals on religious liberty, trade secrets, and employment rights, and regularly secures favorable outcomes in both trial and appellate courts.

Spencer shares his knowledge through lectures at institutions like the University of Denver and the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. He has led Continuing Legal Education courses and addressed legal and advocacy groups, including the Association of Late Deafened Adults and the Faculty of Federal Advocates.
