Sofia Avilova is a founding partner at Avilova Law LLC, where she focuses on immigration and estate planning law. Since 2008, she has represented clients before U.S. government agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, and the Department of State. Her work covers many areas of immigration law, including asylum cases, removal defense, family- and employment-based immigration, naturalization, and Waivers of Inadmissibility. She is skilled at handling complicated cases, including those involving immigration fraud allegations. Throughout her career, Ms. Avilova has worked passionately to protect her clients’ rights and achieve positive outcomes.
Ms. Avilova earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Philosophy from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She then graduated with a J.D. from Michigan State University School of Law (MSU Law) in 2008. While in law school, she served as a Note and Comment Editor for the MSU Law Journal of International Law. Her personal experience with the U.S. immigration system inspired her dedication to immigration law.
Sofia Avilova serves as Immigration Counsel for Agents of Hope, a Chicago nonprofit that helps refugees access education and employment training, in addition to her legal practice. She is actively working to establish an immigration clinic at this organization to support refugees better better better. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys. Beyond immigration, Ms. Avilova assists families with estate planning, including drafting wills and trusts. She is fluent in Russian and Assyrian, enhancing her ability to serve diverse communities.
