Sheryl K. Parkinson is a New York maritime lawyer and founding partner of Hohenstein & Parkinson, LLP. She represents individuals and entities in complex civil, commercial, and maritime matters. Her work includes contentious proceedings, contract disputes, administrative matters, and issues affecting shipping and maritime businesses. She brings decades of government, military, and private-sector experience to matters requiring close legal analysis, strategic judgment, and clear advice.
Sheryl earned her J.D. from Creighton University and her B.A. from Allegheny College. She is admitted in New York and Nebraska and before the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. Her education supports the research, writing, and legal analysis required in maritime disputes, commercial matters, government contracting, and regulatory proceedings. Her early professional development was closely tied to military justice and public-sector legal work.
Sheryl began her career as a commissioned officer in the US Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps and appeared in more than 75 courts-martial. She later served as a Special Assistant US Attorney and advised commanding officers on varied legal issues. After active duty, she joined the Navy’s Office of General Counsel and handled government contracts and disputes. She later became Counsel to the Navy Exchange Command, overseeing legal matters for its worldwide retail operations.
Sheryl K. Parkinson completed 34 years of active and reserve naval service and retired as a Commander in 2014. Her professional affiliations include the Maritime Law Association of the United States, Connecticut Maritime Association, International Bar Association, Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association, and American Bar Association. She has co-authored work on international arbitration and moderated a 2025 ABA Admiralty Disruption Conference panel, reflecting continued involvement in maritime law and professional education.
