Steven B. Levine is a bankruptcy, restructuring, and finance lawyer with more than 30 years of experience. Based in Boston and New York, he represents official and unofficial creditors’ committees, senior and junior lenders, hedge funds, asset purchasers, and other parties in complex restructuring matters. His work includes debtor-in-possession financing, cash collateral and stay litigation, avoidance claims, reorganization plans, and disputes involving indentures, credit agreements, and other financial instruments.
Steven earned an A.B., magna cum laude, from Harvard University, followed by a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard University and an LL.M. from Boston University. His education provides a strong foundation for analyzing sophisticated financial arrangements, bankruptcy issues, and business risks. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and New York, supporting his work with clients involved in major financial transactions and insolvency proceedings.
Steven has handled significant Chapter 11 cases, out-of-court restructurings, refinancings, securitizations, and debt and equity exchange offers. His representative experience includes advising a senior secured creditor and acquisition sponsor in the Pat McGrath Cosmetics Chapter 11 case, representing majority shareholders of Invacare in a refinancing and restructuring, and leading creditors in Six Flags enterprise valuation litigation. He also helped lead financing work involving Hologic’s $2.8 billion secured credit facilities and $1 billion high-yield note issuance.
Steven B. Levine has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America for banking and finance, bankruptcy, creditor-debtor rights, insolvency, reorganization, and bankruptcy litigation. His honors also include recognition from Lawdragon and The Legal 500 US Elite. In addition to his client work, he frequently writes and speaks on finance and reorganization topics and has taught securitization and structured finance at Boston University School of Law since 1996. He also supports pro bono legal service and received the Fraser Award for Pro Bono Excellence in 2013.
