Sara Gheesling

Sara Gheesling is Senior Of Counsel at Lawson & Berry, where she focuses exclusively on criminal defense. She represents individuals facing felony, misdemeanor, juvenile, DUI, and traffic-related charges throughout Greater Metro Atlanta and North Georgia. Gheesling has practiced criminal defense for more than a decade and helps clients understand the legal process, evaluate available options, and pursue resolutions that reflect their individual circumstances and future goals.

Gheesling graduated summa cum laude from the University of Georgia Terry College of Business. She later received a scholarship to attend the University of Georgia School of Law, where she served as chairperson and competitor on the ABA Negotiation Competition team. Her academic background and negotiation training provided a strong foundation for criminal defense work that requires careful case analysis, persuasive advocacy, and practical communication with clients, prosecutors, and courts.

Gheesling has appeared in more than 60 courts throughout Greater Metro Atlanta and North Georgia and has successfully handled more than 800 felony, misdemeanor, and juvenile cases across the state. She has particular experience representing juvenile and young adult clients and addressing the special considerations their cases may involve. Her work also includes seeking outcomes that may allow eligible arrests or court records to be restricted or sealed from public view.

Sara Gheesling is a member of the Georgia Criminal Defense Bar and the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. She is admitted to practice in Georgia municipal, state, and superior courts and in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Gheesling has also written about first-time offenders and alternative sentencing for the Cherokee Tribune.
