Román D. Hernández

Román D. Hernández is a partner at Cable Huston LLP in Portland, Oregon, whose national litigation practice focuses on employment law and commercial disputes. Hernández defends employers against discrimination, harassment, wrongful discharge, wage and hour, and retaliation claims, including class actions. He also handles breach of contract, consumer protection, fraud, and appellate matters for clients in industries including energy, retail, telecommunications, agribusiness, manufacturing, logistics, transportation, software, and education.

Hernández earned his J.D. from Lewis & Clark Law School, where he was a member of the Cornelius Honor Society, and his B.S. from Oregon State University. Lewis & Clark College later awarded him an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters. Before law school, he served nearly five years on active duty as a United States Air Force line officer and attained the rank of Captain, adding leadership experience to his legal and business background.

Hernández has handled significant disputes in state and federal courts across the country and has argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Representative matters include defending Avangrid affiliates in a $32 million contract dispute, obtaining dismissal of whistleblower and retaliation claims against Benton County, and securing a complete defense ruling in an overtime arbitration. He also regularly serves as lead counsel in state and federal class action litigation.

Román D. Hernández has received recognition for both legal practice and professional leadership, including the Federal Bar Association Oregon Chapter’s 2024 Judge James M. Burns Federal Practice Award. Super Lawyers has also recognized him for employment law and commercial litigation; Chambers USA for labor and employment; and Best Lawyers in America for employment and commercial litigation.
