About
Robert S. Huth, Jr. is a Michigan attorney whose practice focuses on municipal law and litigation. He advises local governments on legal matters that affect their daily operations, including ordinance drafting, misdemeanor prosecutions, and general litigation. His work also includes supporting the representation of more than 30 municipal corporations. Robert has served as Shelby Township Attorney since 1996 and Harrison Township Attorney since 2006, giving him extensive experience with the legal needs of local government.
Robert earned a Bachelor of Science from Murray State University in 1985, where faculty selected him as an Outstanding Student Leader. He then earned his Juris Doctor with honors from Michigan State University in 1989. During law school, he wrote for the Law Review and ranked first academically in his class when he accepted a summer associate position at Dykema. His education and early legal work helped establish the foundation for his municipal and litigation practice.
Robert practiced at Dykema before leaving in 1992 to run for the U.S. Congress. He also served as a Harrison Township Trustee from 1988 to 1992. That experience in local government informs his work with municipalities facing disputes, enforcement matters, and questions about public administration. During the Great Recession, he was appointed a founding member of the Michigan Government Turnaround Association and assisted municipalities navigating financial difficulties.
Robert S. Huth, Jr. has been appointed a Macomb County Public Administrator and Special Assistant Attorney General. He is a member of the Municipal Law Section of the Michigan Bar Association. In 2020, Michigan Leading Lawyers recognized him in land use, zoning, and condemnation, as well as governmental and municipal law. He brings his background in public service, courtroom matters, and municipal operations to the practical legal issues local governments face.
