Robert S. Goldsmith is a Roseland, New Jersey partner and co-chair of the Redevelopment and Land Use Department at Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis LLP. He advises private developers, public entities, property owners, and investors on redevelopment, land use, downtown revitalization, transit-oriented development, project financing, incentives, and public-private partnerships. His practice also includes sustainable building initiatives, parking strategy, design and construction concerns, commercial litigation, construction disputes, and appellate matters.

Goldsmith earned his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law-Newark in 1977 and a B.A. with honors from New York University in 1973. After law school, he clerked for Judge Milton B. Conford of the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division. His education and judicial experience developed the legal analysis, writing, and planning skills that support his work on complex development projects, regulatory approvals, financing structures, and land use disputes.

Goldsmith has advised clients on major mixed-use, retail, residential, and urban redevelopment projects throughout New Jersey. His experience includes tax abatement and PILOT agreements, environmental remediation, redevelopment plans, zoning approvals, construction permits, and public-private financing arrangements. He has also argued precedent-setting redevelopment and special improvement district cases before the New Jersey Supreme Court. His work helps clients coordinate legal, governmental, financial, and construction requirements from project planning through completion.

Robert S. Goldsmith has been ranked by Chambers USA for zoning and land use since 2006 and listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 2007. He holds an AV Preeminent peer rating and has received awards from New Jersey planning and building organizations. His leadership includes service with Downtown New Jersey, New Jersey Future, the Regional Plan Association, and industry groups focused on real estate development, redevelopment policy, and community revitalization.
