Richard Gottlieb

Richard Gottlieb is a veteran bankruptcy attorney with over 34 years of experience helping individuals, businesses, and trustees navigate complex financial matters. He founded the Law Offices of Richard N. Gottlieb in 1996 and has built a reputation for creative, results-driven strategies in bankruptcy law. His practice focuses on Chapter 7, 11, and 13 filings, as well as adversary proceedings and creditor representation in both state and federal courts.

Richard earned his J.D., cum laude, from New England School of Law in 1986, and later received his LL.M. in American Banking Law Studies from Boston University School of Law in 1990. He graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton.

Early in his career, Richard served as the primary bankruptcy counsel for the FDIC in New England from 1990 to 1996. In 1995, he achieved dual Board Certification in Consumer and Business Bankruptcy Law from the American Bankruptcy Board of Certification, a distinction he has maintained through several re-certifications.

Richard is licensed to practice in Massachusetts, Colorado, the District of Columbia, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the First Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has trained nearly 20 new attorneys in bankruptcy law and regularly lectures judges and attorneys on developments in the field.

Richard Gottlieb has also taught bankruptcy law as an adjunct professor at Bentley University, New England School of Law, and Northeastern University. Known for his “outside-the-box” thinking, Richard focuses on practical outcomes and custom solutions that protect his clients’ interests.
