Raquel E. Hecht is a distinguished immigration attorney and founding partner of Hecht & Norman, LLP, with offices in Eugene and Salem, Oregon. Practicing immigration law since 1993, she has dedicated her career to advocating for individuals and families navigating complex immigration issues.
Raquel earned her Juris Doctor from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1993, following a Master’s degree in Latin American Studies from UCLA and a Bachelor’s degree in Latin American Studies from New York University, where she graduated cum laude. Her global educational experiences, including time at universities in Spain, Brazil, France, and Italy, have enhanced her cultural understanding and multilingual capabilities, making her an invaluable asset in serving a diverse clientele.
Throughout her immigration law career, Raquel has concentrated on family-based immigration, removal (deportation) defense, asylum applications, consular processing, and related immigration matters. She represents individuals and families in complex, high-stakes cases, safeguarding their rights and guiding them through every step of the process with professionalism and compassion. Raquel has also served as an adjunct professor of immigration law at the University of Oregon School of Law, where she trains and mentors the next generation of immigration attorneys.
Raquel’s contributions extend beyond her legal practice. She has served as Vice-President of Grupo Latino de Acción Directa (GLAD) and has been actively involved with the Human Rights Commission in Eugene. Her work educating and empowering underrepresented communities highlights her commitment to social justice.
Her achievements have earned her numerous accolades, including the 2022 Chief Justice Martha Walters Award for Social Justice, the 2019 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Leader Award, and the 2018 Excellence in Immigration Advocacy Award from the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
