About
R. Peter Taylor practices with Hoefle Phoenix Gormley & Roberts, PLLC in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He is a civil trial lawyer with extensive experience in litigation involving construction, personal injury, commercial disputes, and family law. Other New Hampshire attorneys consult him on difficult litigation matters. His practice combines trial preparation with a strong emphasis on resolving disputes efficiently when possible, while maintaining the courtroom experience needed to take complex cases through trial when settlement is not appropriate.
Peter earned a J.D. from the University of Maine in 1978 and a B.A., with honors, from the University of New Hampshire in 1974. He is admitted in New Hampshire and Maine and in the federal district courts for both states. His legal education and decades of courtroom work provide a foundation for handling civil claims involving factual disputes, damages, contracts, construction issues, family matters, and injury claims, as well as for serving as a neutral in mediation and arbitration proceedings.
Peter has tried approximately 50 jury trials and hundreds of cases before judges. He has represented plaintiffs, defendants, and insurance companies, giving him perspective on how different parties assess liability, damages, and settlement. He served as lead counsel in Krempels v. Maine Turnpike Authority, a federal trial that produced a $12 million verdict. His experience also includes numerous verdicts exceeding $1 million and substantial work in civil mediation since New Hampshire adopted mandatory Superior Court mediation.
R. Peter Taylor maintains an active mediation and arbitration practice in addition to trial work. He has served as a mediator in approximately 1,500 cases over two decades, completed multiple mediation training programs, and spoken on litigation and dispute resolution topics. He has also participated in law school trial programs as an instructor and judge. His experience helps clients and other lawyers evaluate cases from both advocacy and neutral perspectives while pursuing fair and practical resolutions.
