About
R. Michelle Howser, Esq. has devoted 28 years to the legal field, building experience across nearly every role except Judge. Beginning her career in the early 1990s, she developed a practical understanding of the justice system by working hands-on while steadily advancing her professional responsibilities and legal knowledge.
Michelle started in the legal profession as a receptionist and secretary while completing her undergraduate degree in Pre-Law studies at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). After graduating in 1992, she advanced into a paralegal position, where she supported a chief partner and developed foundational experience in employment and labor law before later earning her Juris Doctor from Nashville School of Law.
Michelle stepped away from the legal field for five years to focus on her family and artistic pursuits before returning in 1998 as a paralegal. That return expanded her background into personal injury and social security law, followed by a pivotal role as judicial assistant for Circuit Court Judge Don R. Ash with the State of Tennessee Judiciary.
Michelle was encouraged during her judicial service to continue her education and enrolled full-time at Nashville School of Law while working full-time and raising her family as a single mother. Before completing law school in 2006, she assisted Circuit Court Judge J. Mark Rogers in establishing his judicial office and later passed the bar exam in 2007.
Michelle practiced as an associate attorney from 2007 to 2012, focusing on family law and criminal defense. Her career naturally centered on family-related matters, including divorce, parenting plans, child custody, child support, terminations and adoptions, mediations, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, and employment law.
R. Michelle Howser is deeply engaged in professional and community service. She serves on the boards of Tennessee Legal Association for Women and Rutheford Cable, is a past board member of HELP for Nicaragua, and a Past President of Middle Tennessee Legal Association for Women. She is also an alumnus of Leadership Rutherford and The Titan 100, and frequently presents on family law, legal technology, civility, and ethics.
