About

Nicholas A. Carda is a partner at Stuyvesant, Strong, Krapfl, and Carda, PLLC, serving clients from the firm’s Iowa offices. He maintains a general practice focused on OWI and criminal defense, civil litigation, landlord-tenant matters, family law, personal injury, and estate planning. Carda represents individuals and families in disputes, court proceedings, administrative matters, and planning needs that require careful preparation and practical legal guidance.

Carda earned his J.D. from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 2010 after completing a double major in Criminal Justice and History at the University of South Dakota. During law school, he developed his litigation and alternative dispute resolution skills through competitions held across the country. He later served as president of the Trial Team and vice president of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Board, building a strong foundation in advocacy, negotiation, and case strategy.

Before moving to Iowa in 2012, Carda practiced insurance defense and criminal defense in South Dakota. His experience includes trying civil and criminal cases before juries, handling appeals, and addressing a wide range of administrative proceedings. In one appellate estate matter, his arguments helped secure an Iowa Court of Appeals ruling requiring nearly $400,000 to be returned after a finding of undue influence. He has also handled issues involving Fourth Amendment search and seizure law and inverse condemnation damages.

Nicholas A. Carda brings courtroom experience, appellate advocacy, and practical problem solving to each matter. He has drafted legislation that passed the Iowa House of Representatives and co-presented an educational program for lawyers concerning gun rights and permits. He also holds the same field sobriety testing certification provided to Iowa law enforcement officers for OWI investigations. By combining broad legal experience with focused preparation, Carda helps clients understand their options, protect their rights, and move toward workable resolutions.
