Nathaniel Edmonds is a Partner at DLA Piper in Washington, DC. His practice focuses on global government-facing investigations, especially anti-corruption matters and complex economic crime. He also advises companies on sanctions and export control issues before OFAC, BIS, and DDTC, and supports monitorships, compliance self-reporting obligations, and global risk reviews.
Nathaniel earned a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School, where he graduated cum laude and was Order of the Coif. He also earned an A.B. from Princeton University. He served as a judicial clerk for Judge Milton E. Shadur, US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Nathaniel has investigated FCPA matters involving over 100 countries before the DOJ, the SEC, and many non-US enforcement agencies. As a former supervisor of the FCPA Unit of the Fraud Section in DOJ’s Criminal Division, he helped supervise all FCPA cases in the US and shape anti-corruption enforcement at DOJ.
Nathaniel spent nearly 10 years as a federal white-collar prosecutor. He handled complex economic-crimes investigations and jury trials, including FCPA and export-control-related matters, domestic corruption, accounting fraud, and securities fraud. He helped draft the first edition of A Resource Guide to the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
Nathaniel has earned strong recognition for his work. Chambers USA ranked him Band 3 in Nationwide FCPA from 2019 to 2025, and Band 4 from 2017 to 2018. Chambers Global ranked him Band 3 for USA FCPA from 2020 to 2026. Ethisphere also named him among FCPA Attorneys that Matter in 2014.
Nathaniel Edmonds represents companies in major matters before the DOJ, SEC, BIS, OFAC, and DDTC. His experience includes deferred prosecution agreements, DOJ declinations, World Bank non-debarment issues, compliance risk assessments, due diligence, and work with independent compliance monitors. He also teaches as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center.
