N. Scott Smith

Scott Smith is an Indiana attorney focused on family law litigation and mediation. He handles dissolution (divorce), post-dissolution matters, paternity, and adoption cases. As a registered domestic relations and civil mediator, he manages several mediations each week through court appointments and private selection. His practice is limited to family law matters.

Scott earned his B.A. in 1999 from Indiana University, graduating with High Distinction. His major was Political Science, and he also majored in Spanish. He later attended Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, Indianapolis, Indiana, where he obtained his J.D. in 2005. He graduated cum laude and received the John J. Dillon Scholarship. He was also a Finalist in the Moot Court Championship arguments.

Scott began his legal career after serving as a Governor’s Fellow with the Office of the Governor. During law school, he worked on legislation for a statewide first responder communications system and served as a research assistant. After admission to the Indiana bar in 2005, he developed a litigation practice centered on divorce, adoption, real estate, business, and personal injury matters before narrowing his focus.

Scott is recognized for his work in family law and general litigation. He was named a Rising Star, Super Lawyer, 2014-2015. He has also been selected to Super Lawyers, 2020 – 2024, for family law. In addition to courtroom advocacy, he is a Registered Domestic Relations Mediator, 2016 ,and a Registered Civil Mediator, 2014. He also serves as a Parenting Coordinator and Collaboratively Trained Divorce Lawyer.
