Murtaza Sutarwalla is a founding partner at Edwards Sutarwalla Samani LLP, where he focuses his practice on business law, commercial litigation, personal injury, and estate planning. With years of experience in both private practice and public service, he is widely recognized for his leadership, legal insight, and commitment to achieving strong results for clients in Texas and beyond.

Mr. Sutarwalla completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a B.B.A. in Business Honors / MIS and a B.A. in Ethnic Studies. He then attended the University of Chicago Law School, where he received his J.D. His education at two of the nation’s leading universities provided him with both a strong legal foundation and a deep understanding of business and cultural dynamics, equipping him to navigate complex legal matters with skill and perspective.

Murtaza Sutarwalla launched his legal career as a corporate attorney at Latham & Watkins in Washington, D.C., later expanding his international experience in the firm’s Dubai office. He went on to join Clifford Chance, where he advised on complex corporate and commercial matters across the Middle East and earned a strong reputation for high-stakes, cross-border work.

After distinguished years in private practice, Murtaza served as Deputy Attorney General for Legal Counsel at the Texas Office of the Attorney General. In that role, he acted as chief counsel to the Texas Attorney General, led seven civil divisions, co-authored more than 50 Texas Attorney General Opinions, managed major litigation, advised state leaders on disaster response, and testified before the Texas Legislature on key legal and policy issues.

Today, as a partner at Edwards Sutarwalla Samani LLP, Mr. Sutarwalla combines his global experience, government service, and private practice expertise to deliver strong advocacy and thoughtful representation for clients across multiple areas of law.
