About
Monique Jewett-Brewster is a nationally recognized insolvency attorney and leader of her firm’s Financial Services practice group. With over 20 years of experience, Monique represents a wide range of creditor clients—including financial institutions, credit unions, asset purchasers, and trustees—in complex bankruptcy, workout, restructuring, and enforcement matters across the United States.
Monique earned her J.D. from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law and holds a B.A. in Politics, with a minor in Japanese, from the University of San Francisco.
Monique has handled nearly every aspect of commercial insolvency law. Her work includes negotiating commercial loan workouts, enforcing secured claims, and representing creditors in high-stakes bankruptcy litigation. She has also counseled government entities, such as the City of Oakland, regarding bankruptcy matters—her courtroom admissions span all federal bankruptcy districts in California and multiple U.S. Courts of Appeal.
Monique’s exceptional legal achievements led to her 2023 induction as a Fellow of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers—an honor held by just 14 attorneys in North America that year. She was also named to Lawdragon’s 500 Leading Global Bankruptcy & Restructuring Lawyers and was honored as a 2024 Women of Influence by the Silicon Valley Business Journal.
In addition to her practice, Monique is a prominent legal leadership and education figure. She has chaired the Business Law Section of the California Lawyers Association and served on multiple boards and committees dedicated to commercial finance, diversity in the legal profession, and bankruptcy education. She also frequently writes and speaks on key topics, including automatic stays, forbearance agreements, and Subchapter V issues.
Monique has authored publications for Westlaw’s Commercial Finance Newsletter and CEB and helped launch her firm’s popular video series, Bankruptcy Bytes, and Money Matters, reaching tens of thousands of viewers.
