Brian T. Cumings is a Shareholder at Graves Dougherty Hearon & Moody in Austin, Texas. He is Board Certified in Business Bankruptcy Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and focuses his practice on bankruptcy, creditors’ remedies, and civil litigation. Brian represents creditors, Chapter 7 trustees, and other parties in interest in bankruptcy proceedings across Texas.

Brian earned his J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law in 2012, where he received numerous advocacy honors. He holds a B.A. from Calvin College, which he earned in 2005.

Brian brings deep knowledge and strategic insight to both bankruptcy court and state civil litigation. He regularly represents clients regarding avoidance actions, discharge disputes, exemption objections, and stay relief motions. He also advises businesses and their principals in out-of-court workouts and restructurings.

Before joining the firm, Brian served as a law clerk to Judge Craig A. Gargotta and as a judicial intern to Judge H. Christopher Mott in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas. This early, hands-on bankruptcy court experience laid the foundation for his focused and strategic bankruptcy law practice.

Brian is admitted to practice in Texas and in all four U.S. District Courts in the state. He also serves as litigation counsel to trustees and creditors in Chapter 11 cases and provides post-judgment collection support in state court matters.

Recognized for his legal skill and service, Brian has been included in The Best Lawyers in America for Bankruptcy and Litigation – Bankruptcy. He has also been named to Super Lawyers and Austin Monthly’s “Top Attorneys” list multiple years in a row. His dedication to mentorship and service includes roles with the University of Texas School of Law as a Moot Court coach and coordinator for its Bankruptcy Pro Bono Project.
