Michelle Bos

Michelle Bos is a registered patent attorney and founder of a plant intellectual property practice in Zillah, Washington, established in 2009. She assists plant breeders, variety owners, and agricultural businesses with plant patents, Plant Variety Protection, trademarks, and licensing. Her work includes coordinating foreign plant IP rights and developing agreements that help clients commercialize and protect new varieties of fruit trees, berries, grapes, and ornamental plants.

Bos earned a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry, magna cum laude, from Heritage University in 1999. She completed the Washington State Bar’s APR 6 Law Clerk Program between 2001 and 2005 and became a Washington attorney in 2005. Her science education and legal training support the technical work involved in plant patent applications, the protection of new plant varieties, and the drafting of agreements involving intellectual property rights.

Bos began working in intellectual property law in 1991 as a paralegal and became a registered patent agent in 1999. She later qualified as a registered patent attorney and founded her practice in 2009. Her experience includes preparing plant patent and Plant Variety Protection filings, advising on trademark rights, and coordinating protection in foreign jurisdictions. She has also successfully argued a matter before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences.

Michelle Bos has spoken to horticultural and plant industry groups about protecting new commercial fruit varieties, including presentations at industry meetings in 2012 and 2019. She is a member of the Washington State Bar Association and has worked with clients on the licensing and enforcement of plant intellectual property rights. Through her focused practice, she helps breeders and agricultural businesses protect innovations and manage the commercial use of their plant varieties.
