Michael T. Olsen is an intellectual property lawyer and Shareholder whose practice centers on trademark and brand protection and technology and intellectual property transactions. He helps clients secure trademark registrations with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, manage global trademark portfolios, and develop filing and enforcement strategies. His work also includes trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings, federal court disputes, licensing, software, e-commerce, cloud computing, open source software, data security, and privacy matters.
Michael earned an LL.M., with honors, from The John Marshall Law School, a J.D. from Gonzaga University School of Law, and a B.S. from the University of Utah. His legal education supports work that combines intellectual property protection with business transactions and risk management. He uses that background to evaluate the strength of intellectual property assets, identify gaps in protection, and structure agreements around business goals, warranties, indemnification, liability limits, and other transaction risks.
Michael counsels clients on joint ventures, strategic alliances, software development and maintenance agreements, patent and trademark licenses, joint development agreements, sales and distribution arrangements, technology transfers, SaaS agreements, outsourcing, and supply chain matters. He represents small and midsize companies as well as large public corporations, including international businesses in outdoor recreation, medical devices, software, and food and beverage. His work has included a $50 million product development and license agreement involving LED lighting products and other complex technology transactions.
Michael T. Olsen is admitted in Minnesota and Washington and belongs to the Minnesota State Bar Association, Washington State Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, and Licensing Executives Society. His honors include recognition from The Legal 500 and IP Stars. He also volunteers with Ronald McDonald House and Feed My Starving Children.
