Michael R. Friscia has practiced patent and trademark law for more than three decades, guiding clients in building, protecting, and enforcing intellectual property rights. He has represented businesses of all sizes as well as universities, offering practical strategies and skilled representation in patents, trademarks, and dispute resolution across varied industries.
Michael earned his BE in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1986. He then completed his JD at New York Law School in 1989. Licensed in New Jersey, New York, and before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, he is also admitted to multiple federal district courts. His technical and legal training enable him to advise on complex intellectual property issues.
Michael assists with drafting and prosecuting patent applications in mechanical and electrical technologies, including medical devices, computer systems, electronics, and manufacturing methods. He provides patent opinions, manages appeals, and defends or enforces patent rights in federal courts and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, helping clients safeguard their innovations.
Michael also manages domestic and global trademark portfolios, offering opinions, filing applications, and resolving disputes. He has achieved successful outcomes through negotiations, TTAB proceedings, and federal litigation, including obtaining injunctions to protect clients’ brands. His work ensures businesses maintain strong protection over their trademarks.
Michael is a certified Mediator for the District of New Jersey. He has facilitated settlements in trademark disputes pending before courts and the TTAB. Trained by both the International Trademark Association and the New Jersey State Bar Association, he serves on the INTA Panel of Mediators and has also provided expert testimony in arbitration matters.
Michael R. Friscia continues to be highly regarded for his commitment to protecting clients’ patents, trademarks, and business interests. Michael taught patent and trademark law as an adjunct professor at Seton Hall Law School from 1999 to 2006. Recognized for over a decade in professional rankings, he is often described as a trusted and reliable authority in intellectual property law.
