Matthew Sklar has built his career handling complex intellectual property disputes. He represents clients in district and appellate courts across the country, as well as in arbitration proceedings. His work spans patent infringement, licensing conflicts, trade secret issues, and trademark disputes, with a focus on practical and effective outcomes.
Matthew earned his BS in chemical engineering from Cornell University in 2002, where he was a Cornell Presidential Research Scholar and conducted research on drug delivery systems. He later completed his JD at George Washington University Law School in 2008. Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable Mary Ellen Coster Williams at the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
Matthew has also managed cases beyond intellectual property, including securities litigation and commercial disputes, particularly serving as local counsel in New Jersey courts. He counsels clients on intellectual property management, licensing strategy, and risk assessment, and he has conducted due diligence investigations for transactions involving sensitive technology and data assets.
Matthew represents clients whose industries include pharmaceuticals, logistics, agricultural products, medical devices, electronics, consumer goods, and entertainment. He also advises clients in matters connected to data security, having defended companies in claims arising from data breaches and multidistrict litigation proceedings. His litigation practice regularly involves high-stakes matters with significant technical and financial implications.
Matthew’s work has been recognized through his inclusion in IAM Patent 1000 for consecutive years, highlighting his reputation for patent litigation excellence. He has also authored articles on patent law and trademark protection, and frequently contributes insights on intellectual property strategy. Over the years, he has earned recognition for pro bono service and professional advancement within the legal community.
