Michael D. Seplow is a partner at Schonbrun Seplow Harris Hoffman & Zeldes, LLP, where he concentrates on civil rights and employment litigation. With over three decades of experience, he has litigated high-impact police misconduct and wrongful conviction cases, achieving multi-million-dollar settlements and published appellate decisions.

Mr. Seplow received his A.B. degree magna cum laude from Duke University in 1985, and his Juris Doctor from UCLA School of Law in 1990. He has also contributed to legal education as an adjunct professor at UC Irvine School of Law, teaching civil rights litigation and leading an appellate litigation clinic.

A seasoned trial and appellate lawyer, Mr. Seplow has won significant cases, including Lee v. City of Los Angeles and Scott v. County of Los Angeles, which resulted in combined settlements of nearly $9 million. He has litigated cases under the ADA and the First Amendment and in class actions involving wage and hour disputes, such as a $17 million settlement for IT workers against a major employer.

In 2020, Mr. Seplow received the California Lawyer of the Year (CLAY) Award for his appellate advocacy before the California Supreme Court in B.B. v. County of Los Angeles. His work has earned him repeated recognition as a Southern California “Super Lawyer” from 2004 to 2022 and accolades from the Consumer Attorneys of California.

Michael D. Seplow is admitted to practice in California and multiple federal courts, including all California federal districts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He is a member of several legal organizations, including NPAP, CAALA, CAOC, and CELA, where he continues to advocate for justice and systemic reform.
