Michael D. Beck

Michael D. Beck is an experienced patent attorney with a strong background in engineering and intellectual property law. Before starting his legal career, he worked for nearly ten years as a Vibrations and Design Engineer in the aerospace industry. He later practiced at a major Indianapolis law firm, co-founded a three-person IP firm, and served as a partner at a local boutique.

Michael began his academic journey with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from The Kettering Institute in 1979. He earned his M.S. in Engineering Science and Mechanics from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1980. Later, he obtained his J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 1986, building the foundation for his legal career.

Michael’s legal practice covers all key areas of intellectual property law. This includes preparing and prosecuting patent, trademark, and copyright applications, as well as handling clearance reviews, due diligence investigations, and IP counseling. Michael has deep technical insight, especially in mechanical, electro-mechanical, bio-mechanical, and electrical technologies.

Michael is also a Certified Civil Mediator in Indiana, a role he took on in 2018. His career achievements include being recognized as one of Indiana’s “Super Lawyers” for Intellectual Property in 2001 and being named a “Best Lawyer in America” in Patent Law for three consecutive years, from 2016 to 2018.

Michael D. Beck holds admissions to the Indiana State Bar, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the Seventh Circuit. He has been registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office since 1987. He also held a leadership position as the Past Chair of the Intellectual Property Section of the Indianapolis Bar Association.
