Matthew Scott

Matthew Scott has over three decades of experience as a labor and employment attorney. He has represented individuals, small businesses, municipalities, and some of the largest Fortune 100 companies. Known for handling both sides of employment disputes, Matthew brings balanced insight and seasoned judgment to every case.

Matthew earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Iowa in 1990, followed by his Juris Doctor from Drake University in 1995. Early in his legal career, he helped shape Fifth Circuit employment law jury charges. Judge Martin L.C. Feldman appointed him chair of the advisory committee, which released key employment jury charges in 2006 and 2009.

Over the years, Matthew has earned a reputation for courtroom excellence. He has tried more than 20 employment cases in the last 10 years and has appeared in over 90 published legal opinions. His jury trial experience includes multiple six-figure verdicts for discrimination and retaliation claims, and defense wins in wage and disability cases.

Matthew is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 2002. In addition, he holds memberships in the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation, and the American Board of Trial Advocates. He has authored over 40 papers and has been a featured speaker at numerous legal events.

In addition to legal practice, Matthew serves as the presiding judge for the Rockwall Municipal Court. He was first appointed as Associate Judge in 2019 and became the presiding judge in 2021. His experience spans more than 50 jury and bench trials combined.

Throughout his career, Matthew Scott has received wide recognition. He has been listed as a Texas Superlawyer more than 14 times, named among D Magazine’s Best Lawyers in Dallas multiple years, and recognized as one of the top employment attorneys in the country. His professional path reflects a deep commitment to advancing employment law and justice.
