About
Matthew J. Baione is a founding partner of Pitta & Baione LLP in New York. His practice focuses on 9/11 benefit claims, personal injury, mass torts, and trusts and estates. Since co-founding the firm in 2016, Baione has overseen its claims practice and client advocacy efforts. He helps survivors, responders, workers, and families navigate compensation claims, health benefit issues, and related legal and administrative matters.
Baione earned his J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2014, with a concentration in constitutional law. He received his B.A. in Social Studies, with a minor in Philosophy, from St. John’s University in 2011. He is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey. His academic background supports work involving legal analysis, administrative claims, public policy, and advocacy for individuals facing complex benefit systems.
Baione has handled matters involving the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund and World Trade Center Health Program, including claims for individuals suffering from serious illnesses and disabilities. During the 2019 Victim Compensation Fund funding crisis, he helped coordinate filing and advocacy efforts connected to the Fund’s reauthorization. He also works with federal administrators and policymakers on issues affecting the 9/11 community and assists clients with related probate and Medicaid concerns.
Matthew J. Baione has been selected to New York Super Lawyers Rising Stars from 2018 through 2025 and to Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch through 2026. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association and New York City Bar Association and participates in civic and community initiatives.
