Matthew Barbero

Matthew Barbero is the owner and lead attorney at the Legal Defense Center, where he represents clients facing criminal and traffic charges across Virginia. Known for his quick thinking and strong courtroom presence, he has built a reputation as a skilled defense lawyer who protects his clients’ rights and pursues favorable outcomes in complex cases.

Matthew earned his Juris Doctor from George Washington University Law School, a nationally ranked top-tier institution. After passing the Virginia Bar, he began his legal career at the Hunter Law Firm, focusing on criminal defense, traffic defense, and DUI/DWI cases. He was mentored by Thomas Hunter, the firm’s founder, and quickly distinguished himself as a capable trial attorney.

Within just months of entering private practice, Matthew achieved a significant jury trial victory in a case where his client faced three serious charges carrying the possibility of life imprisonment. One charge was dismissed on a Motion to Strike, and the jury found his client not guilty on the remaining two counts. This early success set the tone for his career as a determined and effective advocate.

Drawing on his background in stand-up comedy, improvisation, and competitive chess, Matthew Barbero brings a unique set of skills to his practice. His public speaking ability, quick wit, and strategic mindset allow him to anticipate challenges and craft persuasive arguments in court. Today, through the Legal Defense Center, he continues to focus exclusively on criminal and traffic defense, providing clients with direct attention, creative strategies, and strong advocacy.
