Matthew A. Warner

Matthew A. Warner-Blankenship is a registered patent attorney authorized to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He provides guidance to start-ups, universities, and established corporations on protecting and managing intellectual property. His work spans patent and trademark prosecution, portfolio oversight, clearance opinions, and resolving disputes involving intellectual property rights.

Matthew earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Grinnell College, then completed a Master’s in Neuroscience at the University of Iowa before receiving his J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law. Prior to practicing law, he conducted medical research at Northwestern Medical School and the University of Notre Dame, focusing on neuroimaging, the biological processes tied to Alzheimer’s Disease, as well as studies in hemostasis and scleroderma. This scientific training strengthens his ability to handle complex patent matters.

Matthew A. Warner-Blankenship also invests in teaching and mentoring future professionals. He serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Iowa College of Law, where he teaches patent prosecution. In addition, he regularly presents at Drake Law School, the University of Iowa IP Law Society, and even in high school classrooms to introduce students to intellectual property concepts. He has also been a panelist at programs like VentureNet, organized by the Iowa Department of Economic Development.

Matthew’s professional achievements have been recognized nationally, including his listing in The Best Lawyers in America® 2026 for Litigation – Intellectual Property and Patent Law. Beyond practice and teaching, he has authored publications on publicity rights, trademark regulations, and patent enforcement, and co-authored scientific articles on fibrosis and scleroderma.
