Mat Grell

Mat Grell is a founding partner of Grell & Watson Patent Attorneys and a highly experienced patent attorney who brings over 15 years of intellectual property and corporate legal expertise to his practice. Based in Austin, Texas, Mat focuses on patent drafting and prosecution, trademark protection, copyright registration, and business contract negotiation. His technical background in electrical and computer engineering gives him a unique edge when advising inventors, entrepreneurs, and technology-driven companies.

Mat earned his J.D. from Western Michigan University in 1995 and holds a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Iowa. Before co-founding the firm, he served as Vice President and General Counsel for Movaz Networks, Inc., where he helped raise $150 million in venture capital and managed corporate governance, M&A due diligence, and intellectual property strategy. He also worked as a patent attorney at Myers & Kaplan in Atlanta and as a Senior Licensing Officer for the University of California and Michigan State University Offices of Technology Transfer, overseeing hundreds of inventions and complex licensing agreements.

Mat’s practice includes extensive experience with telecommunications systems, optics, electronics, software, mechanical devices, and business methods. He is also the founder of InventorStartKit.com and BeanPool.com, ventures that support inventors and small businesses in developing and marketing innovative products.
