Mat A. Slechter is a Louisville personal injury lawyer who represents people harmed by negligence across Kentucky. His practice includes auto accidents, tractor-trailer accidents, medical malpractice, premises liability, nursing home malpractice, and wrongful death claims. Mat earned a B.A. in Economics and Management from Centre College in 1989, where he was a Dean’s List scholar. He received his J.D. from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law in 1992. During law school, he earned Dean’s List honors, served on the Moot Court Board and Journal of Law and Education, and clerked full-time for the Office of the United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky.
Mat has represented clients in trial and appellate courts, including cases involving medical malpractice, premises liability, and disputed injury defenses. His appellate work includes decisions addressing Kentucky’s certificate-of-merit requirement, open and obvious hazards, and the proof required for an affirmative seat belt defense. He is admitted in Kentucky and Tennessee, as well as several federal courts in Kentucky, Indiana, and Michigan, giving him broad experience across state and federal forums.
Mat A. Slechter has been recognized by the Kentucky Trial Court Review as one of Kentucky’s Most Prolific Trial Lawyers and holds an AV Preeminent peer rating from Martindale-Hubbell. He has also been selected to Super Lawyers for plaintiff’s personal injury law.
