About

Marvin Earl Ballin is the visionary founder of Ballin, Ballin & Fishman, a respected Memphis law firm known for excellence in criminal defense and personal injury law. Starting from a modest solo practice, Marvin transformed the firm into a bustling legal team, leaving an enduring impact on Tennessee’s legal community.

Marvin earned his LL.B. from Southern Law University in Memphis in 1963. He began his legal journey while balancing family and financial responsibilities, attending night classes after closing his dry goods store. His perseverance laid the groundwork for a thriving law firm that would eventually span generations of his family.

In 1977, after his son Leslie Ballin graduated from the University of Memphis, Marvin partnered with his son. Their dynamic collaboration attracted the attention of Randall J. Fishman, who joined the team in 1994. Together, they officially formed Ballin, Ballin & Fishman, which has grown into a multi-attorney practice serving a wide range of legal needs, from criminal law to wrongful death litigation.

Marvin’s commitment to justice earned him widespread respect and accolades, including the 2009 Joseph B. Jones Award for Outstanding Lifetime Achievement in Criminal Defense. Though retired, his influence remains strong, evident in the firm’s values, its growth, and the family members who continue his mission.

Though no longer active in day-to-day practice, Marvin Earl Ballin’s presence still resonates throughout the firm he founded. His legacy is visible in every client served and every case pursued with the integrity and excellence he championed. His journey from small office beginnings to building one of Memphis’s most trusted law firms is a testament to hard work, vision, and family dedication.

Marvin leaves behind more than a successful law practice—he leaves a legacy of service, mentorship, and an enduring example of what it means to build something that lasts through leadership and love for the law.
