Mark R. Bateman

Mark R. Bateman is a seasoned attorney and a partner at Young Wooldridge, LLP. He leads the firm’s Business Department, focusing on business and real estate law. With decades of legal experience, he provides strategic counsel to agribusinesses, water districts, real estate owners, developers, and public entities. His expertise spans real estate transactions, contract negotiations, business structuring, leasing, and regulatory matters. Mark holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California, graduating magna cum laude in 1988. He later earned his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, in 1991, where he was recognized as a member of the Order of the Coif for academic excellence.

Mark is a seasoned real estate and environmental law attorney with deep experience in development, asset acquisitions, construction projects, and complex regulatory matters. He advises businesses on property title issues, mineral and water rights, and sophisticated real estate financing transactions. Mark also represents water districts in the management and allocation of vital water resources, helping both private companies and public agencies protect and optimize their water supplies. Before returning to Bakersfield in 2004, he spent more than a decade at Morrison & Foerster’s Los Angeles office, where he handled high-stakes, large-scale legal matters for a wide range of clients.

In addition to his legal practice, Mark R. Bateman is actively involved in professional and community organizations. He serves as an advisor and past chair of the Agribusiness Committee within the California Lawyers Association. He also plays a leadership role in the Kern County Farm Bureau and the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce, where he serves as General Counsel.
