Mark K. Thompson

Mark K. Thompson is the founder and lead attorney of MKT Law, PLC, a Minneapolis-based firm focused on business litigation and legal services for small to mid-sized businesses. With over two decades of legal experience, Mark has built a reputation for aggressively representing professionals and companies across a wide range of industries, from construction and real estate to financial services and healthcare.

Mark earned his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in 1999, where he served as President and Co-Founder of the Computer Legal Internet Committee (CLIC). He holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of St. Thomas, completed in 1996.

Mark’s legal work covers complex commercial disputes, shareholder issues, contract claims, fraud, tortious interference, defamation, trade secret misappropriation, and construction litigation. He also provides transactional services including business formation, contract drafting, commercial leasing, and corporate governance advice. His client base includes CEOs, contractors, developers, brokers, lawyers, and service professionals.

With a focus on strategic litigation and creative problem-solving, Mark has argued numerous cases in state and federal courts and is highly experienced in appellate advocacy. He was instrumental in reversing a $500,000 trial court judgment in a lease dispute before the Minnesota Court of Appeals. His appellate and trial experience spans civil and criminal matters, with appearances in courts across Minnesota and neighboring jurisdictions.

Mark is a Super Lawyer (2020–2025) and was previously named a “Rising Star” by multiple publications. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Minnesota Law School, teaching advanced appellate advocacy in the Civil Rights Moot Court program.
