Mark D. Butler is Of Counsel in the Nashville office of Spicer Rudstrom, PLLC. His practice includes civil litigation, premises liability, auto liability, defective products, insurance defense, real estate law, wills, and probate. He handles matters from pre-suit investigation through discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation, and jury trials. His background combines litigation experience with executive-level business and healthcare administration experience.
Mark earned his B.S. in Business Administration from Union University. He later received his M.B.A. from the University of Tennessee at Martin and his J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law. During law school, he received a CALI Award for his work in a Products Liability Seminar. He was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 2018 and practices before Tennessee trial and appellate courts.
Mark represents clients in insurance matters involving coverage and bad faith, first-party and third-party claims, property and casualty issues, and subrogation. Before joining Spicer Rudstrom, he practiced with Tennessee firms representing plaintiffs in personal injury cases. He also served as retained general counsel to the Dyersburg Suburban Consolidated Utility District, advising on governance, statutory compliance, risk management, and infrastructure financing.
Mark D. Butler began his career in healthcare administration, spending more than a decade managing physician practices and skilled nursing facilities. He served as Director of Operations for Baptist Health Medical Group in Paducah, Kentucky, overseeing 11 hospital-owned physician practices. He also worked as Practice Administrator for Tennessee Valley Cardiovascular Center. This experience informs his approach to risk management, regulatory issues, and complex operational disputes.
