Mark Burton

Mark Burton is a Denver criminal defense and civil rights lawyer at the Law Office of Mark Burton, with more than two decades of experience in Colorado state and federal courts. He represents clients facing serious felony, misdemeanor, traffic, appellate, and post-conviction matters. His civil practice includes claims involving excessive force, unlawful searches, prisoners’ rights, and First Amendment violations. Mark earned his J.D. from University of Denver, Sturm College of Law in 1999. He earned his B.A. from Colorado College in 1986. During law school and for three years afterward, he worked with the Colorado Public Defender’s Office. He entered private practice in Denver in 2002, building experience in criminal trials, appeals, post-conviction proceedings, civil rights litigation, and representation involving state and federal legal issues throughout his career.

Mark handles criminal cases involving assault, homicide, theft, fraud, firearms, DUI, drugs, sex offenses, domestic violence, organized crime, and federal charges. He also represents clients in appeals and post-conviction matters, including habeas corpus proceedings, motions for new trials, and motions for reconsideration. Mark Burton is admitted before the Colorado Supreme Court, US District Courts for Colorado and the District of Columbia, and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. He received the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar’s Gideon Award in 2007 for pro bono advocacy. He belongs to the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and National Lawyers Guild.
