About
Mariann Meier Wang is a seasoned trial attorney and founding partner of Wang Hecker LLP, based in New York City. With a career dedicated to civil rights and social justice, Mariann represents individuals in high-stakes cases involving sexual assault, harassment, employment and housing discrimination, police misconduct, First Amendment violations, and systemic abuse. Her work spans individual claims and class actions, often seeking financial compensation and injunctive relief to create lasting institutional change. She also has experience representing clients in trademark infringement and commercial litigation.
Mariann earned her Juris Doctor from Columbia University in 1996, where she was a James Kent Scholar and received the Jane Marks Murphy Prize. She earned her A.B., magna cum laude, from Harvard University in 1990, receiving both the John Harvard and Elizabeth Agassiz Scholarships.
Mariann began her legal career clerking for the Honorable Sterling Johnson, Jr., U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of New York. Before founding her firm, she worked with several prominent civil rights organizations, including the ACLU and an international human rights group in London, as well as at a major commercial law firm in New York.
Throughout her career, Mariann has led and resolved numerous high-profile civil rights and sexual assault cases. Recently, she spearheaded a groundbreaking systemic lawsuit against the NYPD over its treatment of sexual assault survivors, secured a landmark settlement for a woman repeatedly assaulted by corrections officers, and represented plaintiffs in major fair housing discrimination actions. She also played a pivotal role in Zervos v. Trump, helping establish the key legal precedent that a sitting president is not immune from civil defamation lawsuits in state court.
Mariann Meier Wang courtroom victories and settlements include over $150 million for survivors of childhood sexual abuse, multimillion-dollar resolutions in housing and workplace harassment cases, and successful jury verdicts in police misconduct and housing discrimination lawsuits.
Mariann is admitted to practice in New York, several federal district courts, the Second Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. She frequently speaks on civil rights, damages, and fair housing litigation and remains a committed advocate for justice and equity across her legal practice.
