About

Malia Emerson Schreck is a partner with Lyons, Brandt, Cook & Hiramatsu, where her practice centers on civil litigation defense. She represents clients in health care, employment, housing, public accommodation, and personal injury defense matters. Known for her thorough preparation and client-focused advocacy, she brings significant trial and litigation experience to her work.

Ms. Schreck earned her Bachelor of Science in Policy Analysis from Cornell University in 1995, followed by a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Educational Policy in 1996. She later graduated magna cum laude from the William S. Richardson School of Law in 2005.

Before law school, Ms. Schreck worked in the field of education in San Diego and San Mateo, California, and spent two years in Milan, Italy, where she studied Italian language, culture, and cuisine. This international and professional background informs her ability to work effectively with diverse clients and navigate complex issues with perspective and insight.

From 2013 to 2022, Ms. Schreck served as Court Appointed Master for Kamehameha Schools, reflecting the judiciary’s trust in her judgment and leadership. She has also served as a Court Appointed Master in other matters requiring independence, fairness, and deep understanding of institutional accountability. Her work demonstrates integrity and a commitment to public service.

In addition to her practice, Malia Emerson Schreck has made significant contributions to legal education. She taught Pre-Trial Litigation at the William S. Richardson School of Law from 2017 to 2021, mentoring second- and third-year students in practical litigation skills. She also serves on boards of community and professional organizations, including the Law Alumni Association, the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation, and the Friends of ‘Iolani Palace.
