About

Liz Murrill is an accomplished lawyer whose legal career reflects a deep commitment to public service and constitutional advocacy. She has litigated high-stakes appeals, represented her state before the nation’s highest court, and advised governors and agencies on complex legal matters. Her practice areas span appellate advocacy, state-federal litigation, constitutional law, and crime-victim representation. In her roles, she has helped hold accountable persons convicted of serious offenses, championed victims’ rights, and challenged federal overreach that she found to threaten Louisiana’s sovereignty.

Murrill earned her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism in 1985 from Louisiana State University (LSU). She went on to receive her J.D. in 1991 from the Paul M. Hebert School of Law at LSU, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Louisiana Law Review. Later, she attained her Master of Laws in 2010 from Pepperdine University School of Law. These credentials underpin her extensive experience in both state and federal legal systems.

Murrill helped people statewide by writing appellate briefs, teaching legal writing and advocacy at LSU for more than a decade, and guiding prosecutions and civil actions that touch on criminal justice, consumer protection, and constitutional governance. As the first Solicitor General for the State of Louisiana, she led the state’s appellate work in multiple major cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. In her current capacity, she continues to defend Louisiana’s interests, ensuring that citizens’ rights and state laws receive vigorous protection.

In her day-to-day work, Liz Murrill offers strategic legal support in appeals, works with district attorneys across Louisiana, and spearheads initiatives to protect people from federal mandates she deems improper. Her reputation is built on readiness, depth of experience, and a willingness to engage at the highest levels of litigation. With every case, she works to ensure that the rule of law matters not only in principle but in real outcomes for individuals and communities.
