Laura J. Plack

Laura J. Plack is a partner in Gibson Dunn’s Denver office and a member of the White Collar Defense & Investigations and Litigation practice groups. Laura represents companies and executives in internal investigations, criminal and regulatory investigations, congressional investigations, criminal prosecutions, government enforcement actions, and high-stakes civil disputes. Her work spans financial services, technology, fintech and digital assets, higher education, defense, agriculture, and manufacturing.

Laura earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2012, where she served as a Senior Editor of the Virginia Law Review. She earned a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from the University of Oregon Honors College in 2005, studying political science and business and earning Phi Beta Kappa honors. She later clerked for Judge Jerry E. Smith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Laura’s representative matters include multi-agency investigations, corporate compliance work, congressional inquiries, SEC litigation, civil disputes following government actions, and internal investigations involving potential criminal or regulatory exposure. Laura previously served as Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General and then as an Associate Deputy Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice, where she advised on significant legal and policy matters and coordinated with multiple DOJ components.

Laura J. Plack brings private-practice litigation experience and senior Justice Department service to clients facing complex investigations and enforcement matters. Laura has also worked in the White House and at the Department of Homeland Security. She is admitted in Colorado, California, and the District of Columbia and helps clients manage overlapping legal, regulatory, congressional, and reputational issues with a coordinated approach to investigation strategy, litigation, and compliance.
