L. Bree Laughrun is an accomplished family law attorney who has spent more than ten years advocating for individuals and families in North Carolina. She focuses her practice on a wide range of domestic matters, including separation and divorce, alimony, child custody and support, post-separation support, marital agreements, equitable distribution, and step-parent adoptions. Bree brings a thoughtful and thorough approach to every case, guiding her clients through difficult legal challenges with clarity and compassion.
Bree earned her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2009, where she completed a concentration in Family Law and participated in the Family Law Clinic. She holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the College of Charleston, which she earned in 2006.
Bree began her legal career at the Mecklenburg County Public Defender’s Office, where she defended individuals who could not afford legal counsel. This early experience shaped her commitment to ensuring fair treatment and access to justice for all. Since then, she has built a strong family law practice at Essex Richards, where she is known for her strategic advocacy and dedication to her clients’ goals.
Bree’s professional excellence has earned her multiple honors, including recognition by Best Lawyers in America (2023–2025), North Carolina Super Lawyers Rising Stars (2017–2019), and Business North Carolina Legal Elite in both the Young Guns and Family Law categories.
Beyond her practice, L. Bree Laughrun is actively involved in the legal and local community.
