Kurt E. Bratten focuses on health law, regulatory compliance, civil litigation, and business counseling. His practice covers a broad range of legal services for health care providers, licensed professionals, and institutional organizations. He is known for helping clients address complex legal and operational challenges while balancing regulatory obligations, risk management concerns, and long-term business goals. Kurt earned his undergraduate degree from Mary Washington College before pursuing his legal education at New England School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor. His legal career has included substantial work in both New York and Massachusetts. Prior to returning to New York, he practiced with a law firm in Boston, Massachusetts, gaining valuable experience handling litigation, regulatory matters, and complex legal issues across multiple industries.

Kurt advises a wide variety of health care organizations, including nursing homes, adult care facilities, clinical laboratories, home care agencies, mental health providers, physician practices, management companies, health care provider associations, and individual licensed professionals. He regularly assists with HIPAA compliance, security incident assessments, breach response matters, managed care agreements, data privacy requirements, and federal and state regulatory issues. His experience also extends to corporate formation, intellectual property matters, employment concerns, and business operations for organizations both within and outside the health care sector.

Kurt has extensive courtroom and administrative proceeding experience. He represents health care providers and licensed professionals in regulatory enforcement actions, professional discipline matters, Article 78 proceedings, and other civil disputes. His litigation background includes cases involving ERISA claims, fraud allegations, intellectual property disputes, employment conflicts, contractual disagreements, trade secret protection, restrictive covenant enforcement, corporate break-ups, and other complex business controversies. He also places strong emphasis on helping clients avoid unnecessary litigation when practical solutions can better protect resources and business objectives.

Kurt E. Bratten has been admitted to practice in New York State, Massachusetts, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and several federal district courts. He currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of The Legal Project and remains active in organizations including the American Health Lawyers Association, New York State Bar Association, Albany County Bar Association, and Leadership Tech Valley. His professional excellence has been recognized by Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers.
